Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree)

barbieri

Richard Barbieri is a Grammy nominated / musician / composer / sound designer primarily known for his work with the bands Japan (1975 - 1983) and Porcupine Tree (1993 - 2023). Both groups achieved commercial and critical success. Richard has been programming synthesizers since the late seventies, when he acquired a Roland System 700 Lab Series semi modular.

Along with David Sylvian the programming skills hit a peak with the ground breaking “Tin Drum” album, which stayed in the UK charts for a year and the avant garde single “Ghosts”, which remains one of the most experimental tracks to reach the top 5. Now nearing the end of Porcupine Tree’s 2022/23 World tour, Richard is currently writing his 5th solo album.
